The Congregation of the Missionary Brothers of Saint Francis of Assisi-CMSF (Congregatio Missionaria Sancti Francisi) popularly known as "Franciscan Missionary Brothers", was established in 1901 at Nagpur by Brother Paulus Moritz. The Congregation is inspired and led by the Franciscan Spirit and Charism of Brother Paulus Moritz. It is a Religious Missionary Institute of Pontifical Rite under the Sacred Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. The Congregation follows the Rule of the Third Order Regular (TOR) of Saint Francis of Assisi.
The same spirit and charism of St. Francis do operate in the lives and activities of the Brothers and practice the Evangelical Counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience which they embrace voluntarily.
Strengthening the ties of Brotherhood is an evangelical imperative for which the Brothers work ceaselessly. They embrace a relationship with everything that exists: people, nations, ideologies, philosophies, the animal and vegetative kingdoms, the mineral and the celestial worlds and thus a universal brotherhood. It is a perfect and ideal relationship, which God intends to bring about with the co-operation of humankind.
Today the Congregation is well serving in India, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Paraguay, Bolivia, Sri Lanka, North America, Canada and Ghana. As a charitable Religious Society, it is engaged in Schools, Colleges, Professional Colleges, Technical Schools (Formal and Non-Formal), Dispensaries, Hospitals, Vocational Training Centre’s, Orphanages, Home for Street Children, Rehabilitation Centre’s, Boys' Homes, Youth Centre’s and Movements, Model Agricultural Farms etc.
